The 'Intel Cup' National Undergraduate Embedded System Electronic Design Contest Results 2004

Prizes were awarded November 24, 2004 for the National Undergraduate Embedded System Electronic Design Contest 2004. The bi-annual contest was jointly hosted by the Higher Education Department of China's Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Personnel Department of China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII), and supported by the IntelŽ Higher Education Program. The prize ceremony was held at Beijing Kerry Center and attended by prominent guests including senior officials from MOE and MII, academicians from the China Academy of Science (CAS) and the China Academy of Engineering (CAE), Intel senior managers, media and many partners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

The contest included 106 teams from 56 universities, including two universities each from Hong Kong and Singapore. All teams selected their own projects and designed solutions on the Sitsang platform, based on the Intel PXA255 processor with Intel XScaleŽ Microarchitecture, provided by Intel (China) Limited.

Each participating team was free to play to its own strengths and implement a project that interested them and made use of their unique talents and creativity. The research spanned Windows CE applications, communications devices, instrument measurement and security, while application functions included image, video, audio, and signal processing, and wired and wireless network applications. Teams were expected to implement architecture, design function modules and optimize algorithm performance. Teams from Hong Kong and Singapore produced particularly unique product design concepts and styles, and collaborated closely throughout.

The contest was divided into North and South regions, and lasted for four months. Projects were evaluated by Regional Expert Teams, who forwarded the best contenders onto a National Expert Team. The National Expert Team selected 11 Gold Award Teams, 25 Silver Award Teams and 37 Bronze Award Teams, as well as 20 runner-up teams. The Intel Cup was awarded to the teams producing the two highest rated projects: Fudan University for the Portable Multimedia Center and Xidian University for their Car Black Box.
